I have the fondest memories of Sid when I (Gary B) was growing up in Skokie alongside my best friend, Richy and his brothers, Jeff and Gary. Sid, his first wife Norma, sister Leona, and brother-in-law Jerry were a terrific combo in our two-block area, both in business and in community life. And the families had a great sense of humor, too.
Although I never had the opportunity to get to know Carole very well, I know that she has been wonderful for Sid (I have always gotten my reports from Richy), and together they have made a life together that has fully included all of their children and their simchas. Back in Skokie, our lives were all so intertwined. Now, with distance between all of us, it has been harder–even with technology–to stay in close touch. But Richy and I continue to do the best we can. I’m sure we’ll continue to do so.
May you all find peace in your beautiful memories of Sid.
Love,
Pat and Gary Becker

Don and I were so sorry to read about Sid’s passing. He was a dear, sweet, kind gentleman.

Many people have told me how much they loved my father. I have appreciated their warm and kind words since his passing on Veteran’s Day. He was a great observer of life and always told me to watch people to understand them. Yet, he clearly was exciting to be around because he could dance, sing, joke, and play a fabulous game of bowling. I had my dad for close to 60 years of my life…so I can feel good about his longevity. He was a prideful and helping father. I could not ask for better. I hope that when my time comes some day, my kids and the people around me will feel the same about me as I have felt and seen from people reacting to my dad’s life. A veteran of D-Day, Sid Cohen is my hero. Thank you.

Sid and Shirley are one of my favorite couples! I have know both of them for some time now. They would come to many events that I planned at my work and they always brought a smile to my face. Our relationship grew into friendship. Sid was funny and liked to make jokes and make others smile. He loved to dance and we had a our dances together while Shirley just smiled and watched on. I will miss hugging him and seeing his face. He was a charmer! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and especially Shirley during this difficult time. Love you.
