We met Sara at Glenview Terrace when we went to visit our mother, Anne Satovitz. Sara was always smiling and happy to converse with us. Many meals we shared in the dining room where Sara usually had some “special” comments for the food. It certainly wasn’t The Bagel. Sara had a fabulous sense of humor and loved to laugh at jokes and even told a few. She was especially helpful with other residents trying to get them to see the half full glass. We will remember her fondly. Vicki & Bert Satovitz

When my widowed mother married my stepfather Max Randell in 1952, my family not only gained a beloved “Papa”, but also a wonderful “Sareky”. Sara was the waitress in my Papa’s delicatessen and liquor store, Randell’s, in the old Jewish Theatre building on Ogden and Kedzie. When that store closed, she went to The Bagel. I also remember Harry who was an insurance debit man then and often came into the store.
I have many memories of her, the most vivid of her quick action and calming attitude when I almost cut off the tip of my finger on the meat slicing machine. She whisked me over the doctor’s office across the street, keeping me calm all the time, allowing what could have been a very bad situation to be well and quickly treated.
When I called my sister Frada today to tell her of the obituary, she too remembered Sara as a very caring person, including the time when Frada who must have been 5 or 6, accidently knocked over the bubble gum machine & was “running away”. Sara intercepted her, talked to her, and brought her back to the store.
May the memory of Sara be a blessing for all her family.
