Nancy,
I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I have very fond memories of her at Harper during the five years when Peter attended. She was so involved in everything and everyone. We all knew and greatly appreciated how much she cared and the difference she made. My sympathy to you and your family.

My condolences to the family of Barb Savitt. My mother, Meice Hoffmeyer, was Barb’s secretary at Harper School for many years. Mother enjoyed working with Barb. I remember Barb during her working years as a kind, bright & professional women.
By chance, while waiting in line for an event at CBG, I reconnected with Barb briefly. It was a pleasure to see her. She told me a couple of memories she had of my mother, which touched me.
I had the good fortune to see her a couple of other times at CBG events, and I always enjoyed seeing her. I’m grateful to have known her, & saddened to hear of her death.

Barb was principal when I first started at Harper School. We worked together for 4 years. She was always so kind, understanding, and supportive of me. I am so glad we had lunch together last August and that I visited her 2 weeks ago. I just found out of her passing this morning when I returned to work and received the information in an email. So sorry I wasn’t at the service or a shiva. I will never forget her! She is way up at the top of the “admired” people in my life. My deepest sympathy to Jerry and all of her family.

My wife Loretta and I knew Barb from working with her at the Chicago Botanic Garden. She was a lovely lady, always with a ready smile and a cheerful greating. We worked together unloading trucks for the Spring plant sale; she was very much on top of what was going on, and took a leadership role in the unloading. We will sorely miss her cheerfulness and lovely presence.
Our deepest sympathy to the family for their loss.

In 1972 I was appointed as principal of Highcrest School in Wilmette. At that time, Barb was teaching third grade. I could tell immediately that she was an outstanding teacher, caring and concerned about each child. She also worked hard to make me feel comfortable in my new position and I will always appreciate her support.
Later when Highcrest closed, I moved to Harper as principal and in 1980 moved away.
When returning to Wilmette, and looking for a position, Barb was now principal of Harper.
I applied, was interviewed by her and was hired. So an interesting situation as I was once her boss and now she was mine. I have so many wonderful memories. She called me about a month ago and we shared these. I knew she was ill but had no idea that she was calling to say good bye.
Love
My sympathy to you, Jerry and your family.
All the best.

Volunteering at the Chicago botanic garden won’t be the same without Barb. Her presence, her smiling face and her hard work were evident everywhere in the Garden. I also knew her as a fellow educator. She will be sadly missed. My sympathy to to all of her family who have lost a great lady. Marge Botchie

My condolences to the Savitt family on Barbara’s passing.
As a teaching colleague, Barbara demonstrated the leadership by example that is the hallmark of outstanding professionals. As a school principal, Barbara provided gentle but firm direction to faculty, staff, and students. Beyond her work, Barbara was a woman of good humor and humanity. Although we grieve at her passing, let us also celebrate a life well lived.
