Nan has said it so beautifully that there is little to add.
I always considered Sue my very best friend, and have shared, although at a distance, the grief in seeing her wonderful mind betray her.
Sue could always be counted on for a blunt, totally honest opinion, even when she knew it wouldn’t be well received.
There are so many memories I could share, the last of which was her happy visit to us here in Columbia. She didn’t want to come until I promised a visit to Charleston — and so we went, off to several days there and a return visit to Columbia. I still visit Charleston from time to time, and never go there without it bringing up special memories of our visit there. She came out of love, like so many things she did for us all.
I’ve always felt like a member of the Gellman family, and hope to continue to be thought of that way. Sue made it happen, for all of us!
Much love to all of you family members,
Shan and Bill

Dear Aaron, Sam, Julie, Dan, Christine, Alex, grandchildren and family,
We want to express our feelings of sadness as well as relief that the last few devastating years of Sue’s “living” have ended. We know how difficult it has been to have witnessed her deterioration . How sad it is that her recent years were so difficult and heartbreaking.
We shall remember Sue as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend to us and so many others. She was everyone’s best friend. She had incredible energy , intelligence, humor, knowledge, kindness and I felt blessed to have her friendship.
I will remember the many times we spent together ….she was my “hero”, and I could always depend on hearing the truth from her lips..
May she rest in peace and may you all find comfort in remembering the years you spent together with Sue, a very remarkable woman.
