Alvin Louis Golub

Alvin’s wife Shirlee and my mother were distant cousins. I don’t know how Alvin and my dad started their friendship, but over the years I got to know him well. He retired at a relatively young age and although my father was much older they would spend the day together, enjoying each other’s company. Dad developed macular degeneration and Alvin became his driver. No errand or outing for or with Dad was too overwhelming for him to undertake. He always displayed goodness, kindness, warmth and cheer.

I am a hospice volunteer and had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Golub on May 14. After I introduced myself, he asked me to sit down and we talked for about 45 minutes. I loved his spirit, sense of humor and intelligence. He was especially proud of his granddaughter Alix and spoke so highly of her. I was sorry to hear of his passing.
