When the FAA said I didn’t have to have a medical every 6 months until I was over forty, it was actually a disappointing bit of news. Instead of seeing Doc every February and August, I would only have the chance to soak up his wisdom in the summers. When I offered to help out anytime he needed (every time I left his office), it was really a selfish offer. Knowing he had a great family and a strong independent streak, I didn’t want to push so I was looking forward to getting back to the 6 month routine. I’m sorry I wasn’t one year older so I could’ve had one last February visit.
No matter how quickly he adopted the new technologies, it was always great to see his reminder postcard in the mail; this time the rumors were true.
No AME will ever have such a knack for putting applicants so at ease (except for those perfectly timed questions during the blood pressure check) because Doc considered us all his patients and fellow pilots.
Thank you, Scott, for sending me his way and thank you, Doc, for everything!

My sincere condolences to the Klemptner family. l will truly miss Dr. “K” who was not just my Doctor but a mentor and friend as well. In 1965, I first met him for my first Flight Physical when I was 15 years old and have been with him to present. Thru the years he helped me thru several serious health issues, greatly improving the quality of my life. During these years we enjoyed many conversations about mutual friends(John Peterson / Morey Begner) , aircraft, flying and anything related. We also shared many meals, taking each other to our favorite restaurants. I enjoyed Dr. “K” ‘s company and stories of his many, many life experiences. He truly had an effect on my growing up and the rest of my life. Thank you Dr. “K”…..

Dear Doc,
I would like to say THANK YOU !! Thank you for being my only Doctor for the past 7 years…thank you for being a great friend that listened to me and always gave me sound fatherly advise…thank you for sharing your thoughts about your lovely wife and how much you loved and missed her…thank you for being a great aviation ambassador. You are one of those very unique and special individuals that we will never ever forget. I feel very blessed that Bernie Valskis recommended you as my FAA Physician over 7 years ago. I always looked so forward to seeing you when I was due for my exam. You were always such a great spirit. We will all miss you very much….your children…grandchildren…patients…friends and me (John M Graff) which is how you would answer the phone when I would call….you would say..”Hello John M Graff”…I will miss calling you and hearing you say that….
We celebrate the life of a man that was blessed with many years of joy and happiness.
Warmest Regards and Blessings,
John, Kim, Louka and Preston

I called on Dr. Klemptner for many years as a pharmaceutical sales representative. He was a memorable physician and customer because of his kindness, welcoming attitude, genuine interest in me and the products I came to tell him about. I enjoyed our visits immensely and the talk about flying and military service. I was always treated respectfully. My sincere condolences to Dr. Klemptner’s family.

I started coming to the Doc several years ago at the advice of Chuck Wenk. Of all the FAA medical examiners I have had, he was by far the most thorough. He also helped me get my medical after an episode of atrial fibrillation. I saw him every year, and always enjoyed the visit. He loved to talk about flying and his family, including the dog. We even dabbled in politics once in a while. The last couple visits I felt bad because he missed his dear wife so badly. My last visit was just last month, and one of his daughters was there helping him out. He was not feeling well, but after a little conversation he was his old self and I very much enjoyed the visit once again. I wish the family my deepest condolences, and can only offer that now he is with his beloved Dorothy.

I remember sitting in Uncle Doc and Aunt Dorothy’s kitchen. Watching Commander sit for an eternity with a cookie on his nose waiting for the OK from Uncle Doc to make it flip into his mouth. My Dad counted Uncle Doc as his friend and I know he made a difference in the course of my Dad’s life and my parent’s marriage. He took care of all of us when I was growing up. We all loved him and will miss him.

My first “grownup doc”, I was around 13 when Doc started taking care of me and my family. I became a private pilot in 1977 and of course, Doc became my flight physician right up to late last summer when he gave me my most recent flight exam. Over the past 48 years, He watched over my appendix surgery, cured my childhood alergies and helped us care for our dad at Edgewater and then towards the end, made it possible for us to help dad pass comfortably in our home 27 years ago.
I am fairly certain Marcus Welby was modeled after Doc Klemptner….a lost breed indeed! Thanks and Condolences to the Klemptner family from the Perl family…Sister Karen, Brother Allen, Mother Helen and myself, Jeff Perl.

On January 6, 2010 Mom passed on to the next life and now on April 8, 2013, 3 years and 3 months later, Dad has followed her.
We so hate to say Good-Bye Pop. So how about Until we meet again – on the other side. No sadness, no pain, no disease. Just You & Maude and the rest of our family and friends together once more.
’till then, we love you still…

I remember watching your parents brown terrier when it was a puppy when they went on vacation.
Also your fathers concern when he cared for my father before he passed.
