Obituary

Donald J. Pasik, 78, passed away peacefully on December 6 after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Donald moved to Acton and then Concord, MA before retiring to Lacey, WA. Donald was the beloved husband and best friend of Maureen, nee Brewer, for 57 wonderful years; loving father of Ronald Pasik (Sandie Poisner Pasik) and Laura Pasik (Paul Norris); cherished grandfather of Joanna Pasik, Rebecca (Jonathan) Marx and Alicia Pasik; devoted son of the late Vollie and Joseph Pasik; dear brother of Ruth (the late James) Ruben, Robert Pasik and the late David (Virginia) Pasik; adored former father-in-law of Dana Ruben Pasik; treasured uncle, cousin and friend of many. Donald was proud to be an aerospace engineer, working on such projects as the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line, the guidance system for the first Lunar Excursion Module that landed an American astronaut on the moon, and a sonar guidance system that made an accurate map of the ocean floor. The same sonar technology was also used in many airplanes, missile guidance systems and advanced medical equipment. In addition to his many professional accomplishments Donald was a track and field athlete, an artist, a political activist, a challenge-level square dancer, and a friend to all cats. However his greatest joy in life was his family. Chapel service Monday 10 am at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights, IL. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. My father was a dedicated hard working professional for Raytheon Company for 43 years. He taught me to have a strong work ethic and to listen to people. He was a good listener.

He also made time to be with his children and later with his grandchildren and was always generous with his time. He made sure his children and grandchildren got an education.

Most of all he had this really dry sense of humor and poked a little fun at everything all away to a week ago Saturday. My favorite joke was when he got on a mailing list from the Reverend Jerry Falwell addressed to “PS” Pasik. I went out to get the mail one day and there was this letter from Jerry Falwell addressed to PS Pasik. I asked if there was a cat named PS in the house, and dad replied no PS stands for Pig Slops. As in time to slop the pigs from Charlottes Web. Then it dawned on me that this was a father pig and daughter spider thing.

So incredibly grateful to have gotten a great visit with my Uncle Don and Aunt Maureen when they came to Minnesota for a family visit. But first, they picked up my Uncle Bob Pasik in Green Bay to bring him along for the shenanigans. What a joy to watch the 3 Pasik “kids” together again, Ruth (my mom) and her brothers Don and Bob. Many laughs and much love was shared on that visit. My Uncle Don was the same as I always remembered him: loving, hilarious, brilliant, and just good fun. He will be so missed………………
