Dear Dad,
Almost a year has passed since you left us so suddenly. I wish I was able to talk to you and hug you and kiss you. I wish every day that you were here on earth with us. Life is not fair. You should have stayed with us. I wish I could close my eyes and open them to this nightmare being over. I love you and miss you.

OMG! I just found out about Sam’s passing and it comes as a shock..a great shock. For the past 22 years, I saw Sam every year for tax preparation, and got caught up on family, friends and life. I attended high school and graduated with Phyllis, and our daughters attended HPHS. We had other friends in common from Roosevelt. I always looked forward to our catching up meeting and the jovial banter. I can’t imagine the devastation his family feels. I hope the loving messages and memories of the wonderful person Sam was helps the healing process. My deepest condolences to the entire family.

I just found out this very sad news. Saw Sam last month at one of Tax Seminars and even though it was over a year when I was helping him with returns, it seamed that we just talked last week. He was as always cheerful, funny and very knowledgeable. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to whole family.

Sam was a wonderful person. He was our accountant for our clothing stores ,Digits, for many years.
I met Sam when I was 16, at Elkhart Lake, Wis. when he worked there, and we became friends.
I remember how excited he was when he was going to marry Phyllis! I was so happy for him.
I am so sorry for your loss. He left us too soon.
Our deepest condolences to the Remer family.
Fondly,
Diane and Sheldon Helfgot

I spoke with Sam Thursday. He was putting in one of his 15 hour days. Sam has worked my partner(John Novak) Since 1986 and was truly our CFO. He nursed us through the pains of owing a business yet always had time to send one of his famous e-mails which always put a smile on my face.
I cry as I write this because Sam was a gentle and brilliant man who has left us too soon. I don’t know what we will do without him. There are not many truly honest men like Sam out there.
God bless you Sam and prayers go out to your family who you always talked lovingly about over the many years I have known you. Jack and I cannot find the words to express our grief.
God Speed,

I had an appointment with Sam on Thursday, March 5. We visited for about 2 hours from 11 am to a bit after 1 pm. I brought him my taxes early (for me) this year because I plan to have surgery on April 9th. He has done my family’s taxes for at least 25-30 years. At first he came to our home. Then we met on Elm Place and so on. Occasionally we would consult mid-year. But I always knew he was there. He was my financial ace in the hole. He had my back.
We talked about health and family. He said he felt fine and had no plans to retire. He would go to his Las Vegas home again at the end of April and perhaps more often if and when he retired. But he would always keep a place in Chicago because of family.
He often talked of his wife and family with pride, showed family pictures, and shared stories. I was very shaken to hear from Lindsey the next morning. I feel bereft. He was a genuine, warm, caring person. I saw no sign of such an impending catastrophe.
My sincere condolences.
