Obituary

Harry Altman, 91. Born in Chicago on January 4, 1924. Died on May 6, 2015. Harry lived a long and wonderful life, filled with love for his family and devotion to friends. He loved a good joke and a great hot dog. Harry was a graduate of Roosevelt H.S., Roosevelt University, IIT Kent College of Law. He was a veteran of WWII, Iwo Jima and the Philippines. He was in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (now called Homeland Security) and proud member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 89. Harry practiced law for over 65 years and was an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association. He was active in local Jewish affairs, enjoyed stamp collecting, old automobiles, sports history, classical music, opera and studied American history. Harry was an avid supporter of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was a long-time boater and a member of the Diversey Yacht Club for 30 years; J-dock was his second home. He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife Leslie Anne; six loving children and their spouses, Nancy (Paul) Etsekson, Judy Anderson (Lewis Jones), Cindy (Sandy) Levy, Geoffrey Altman, John (Aleah) Kaip and Susan Kaip (Jeremy Kay); ten grandchildren, Chloe, Michele, Caroline (Bobby), Billy, Jaclyn, Danielle, Juliette, Matias, Pilar, Nicky and great grandchild, Mabel. Harry Altman was born to Jack and Bluma Altman and was the loving brother of the late Seymour (the late Lois) Altman and the late Ina (Walter) Hines. Harry was the treasured uncle, cousin and friend of many. Chapel service Friday 2:30 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park.
