Leonard Brauer, 81, passed away Friday November 27th at Northwest Community Hopital. Leonard was born in East Chicago, Indiana on April 3, 1934 and grew up in Hammond, Indiana. In 1967, Len Brauer became a pioneer and major force in the newly developing recruitment advertising specialty. And with the backing of many of his influential clients, he was instrumental in helping to eliminate sexual bias on the help wanted pages of the major city and suburban Chicago newspapers. He was also a much invited speaker at personnel association meetings, college advertising classes and advertising department of several major newspapers. Len opened his own agency, Renaissance Advertising, on January 1, 1991 and for the next 8 years produced some of the most creative, effective recruitment advertising of the day. He closed the agency and retired on December 31, 1998. In later years, he enjoyed writing letters to the Opinion page of the Daily Herald. Len was proud to be a veteran of the united States Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Paula Nowicki, sons Joshua (Debbie), Mark (Cris), Daniel (Samantha Klein, fiancee) and Christopher: granddaughters Rachel and Sonya Brauer and many cousins, nieces and nephews. in lieu of flowers, Len would like for you to go out of your way to do something nice and meaningful for someone and ask them to pay it forward. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 2nd at 2:30 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights.
