To Sid’s wife, Daughter Beth (her Husband), Son Michael (his Wife), and his Grandchildren, I am deeply saddened to learn of your great loss. To me Sid was like a Father! I was honored to be part of the “Sid’s Texaco” crew when he hired me in 1972. This was my first real job and learned so much there not only responsibilities of the work place but learning the mechanics part of it! One day after a few months employed there Sid took me into his office and said, Brian, I want to teach you the books, so I sat down that night and he showed me how he did the daily ledger. He would always come out on certain days and say “Guys we came up short yesterday”, but this day at my class we came up “over” I said well that’s good! But as I learned about a minute later, Sid said, NO if you come up short that means someone possibly cheated you and if you come up over we could have cheated the customer and we never want to do that! Lesson learned. I just celebrated my 40th year in the Railroad industry both working with my hands in the field and working at Corporate headquarters on the 2nd half of my career and can only thank this guy for his knowledge and willingness to give me that opportunity of responsibility and to get where I am today! We always kept in touch and up until a month or two ago was the last time we talked. Keeping in touch after all these years meant a lot to me! He would always give me good advice no matter what the subject and always ask how my family was doing. I will miss you my dear friend!! ;-( Terri, unfortunately I will not be able to attend Sid’s services tomorrow but will most definitely keep him close to my heart and in my prayers.
