Dr. Podgers was a wonderful gracious knowledgeable, mentor and friend. He not only taught me my way around the patient’s bedside, but his wanderlust and stories of his travels fueled my own. It’s been many years since I left Lutheran General (1987) and I just retired from a long academic career, but his friendship and knowledge have stayed with me, and much of what he taught me has been passed to new generations of physicians.

I was a friend and a lawyer for Dr. Podgers. We spent hours conversing about many topics such as law, medicine, society, politics, and philosophy. I enjoyed his company immensely and I will miss him. May he live with God forever.

My parents, Edward and Mary Mulcrone were residents of Maryhaven Nursing Home in Glenview. Dr. Podgers treated both of them. Even though my mother suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, he always took the time to patiently listen, and respond to their needs. My family and I are most grateful for his dedicated and kind service. I will certainly remember him in my prayers.

My husband and I were blessed to be patients from 1960/1992. It took us years to find another Doctor we like as much as Dr. P. when we moved to Lake County. My Deepest Sympathies to you and your family from both my Husband (Frank who I lost in 2012)
and myself. May he rest in peace. I really enjoyed the article of his 50 years at Lutheran General Hosp.

“Podgy” as I called him, had been our family doctor from the mid 70’s until he retired. I don’t know what I , personally, would have done without his sincere kindness and expertise.
On the day he actually left “Gericare”, I went to sit with him, and remember old times. As I was preparing to leave, he said “hey Betty…where’s my kiss”? A true friend and my sweetheart, I will never ever forget him!! And, oh those Hawaiian shirts!!!!
Our family sends all of our prayers to his entire family.
