Obituary

Jules S Shapiro, MD was born on April 18, 1937 to Anna (Schwartz) and Joseph Shapiro. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marian (Cohen) Shapiro, his daughter Beth (Steve) Faskowitz and three grandsons, Joshua, Bradley and Adam Faskowitz. He is also survived by a brother, Dr. Irwin (Heidi) Shapiro and three nephews Joey, Eric (Raquelle) and Scott Shapiro. Jules had many accomplishments. He was an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center for 31 years where he specialized in surgery of the hand. Upon retirement, he turned his love of working with hands into sculpting bronze and stone hands. He was a Professor of Orthopaedics at Rush where he was the author of several scientific papers. He invented the 3M Shapiro Stapilizer, a machine that stapled bone to bone. Despite all of his attainments, Jules was a classy, gentle soul who lived by the following credo: Humor Humility Humanity. Service Thurs 8/24, 10 AM, Shalom Memorial Funeral Home 1700 W Rand Rd, Arlington Heights. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 W Montrose Ave, Norridge.
