We had the pleasure of traveling with Clara and Papa Sam and what a pleasure it was! One of many memories I have is when we were on the cruise and as the days passed the over eating in abundance continued. While looking at the tummies of the men Clara turned to me and said “since when did men become pregnant?” I remember bursting out in laughter. We had fun and laughs together.
We did “attend” her services because we wanted to show our respect and fondness for a very brave lady. Farewell Clara and may your new home hold all the very best blessings.

Marisha, as I knew her, was the dearest friend of my grandfather Nathan. Both Holocaust survivors they shared something the rest of us can never imagine. I have memories of her visiting us on Shabbat at my grandfather’s house in West Rogers Park, one of the few, one of the trusted. It meant more to me than she will ever know that she attended my Son Alex Nathan Fox’s Bris. My grandfather had already passed away and Marisha connected me to him in a way I cannot describe. It was then, as she was leaving, that she told me how she cared for my father as a young child when he had no one else to look after him. She was a very special person to our family and I will miss her deeply.

When I remember Clara, I think of all the wonderful times at Rochelle’s house in Lincolnwood. Memorial Day, July 4th, holidays throughout many many years. I loved sharing dinners with her and the discussions we had, be it about Rochelle’s loves or even politics. She was a spit fire. Never backed off her opinions. She was a true fighter and for that I loved her.
She was special to me and I am very sad to know I won’t see her again on this earth.
Bless you Clara. You had a life well lived, a difficult life, but full of blessings and love.

Clara was known to our family as Marisha. Marisha met my parents, and me on a boat coming from Europe to the United States in 1949. They were all Holocaust survivors and they remained friends for the rest of their lives. Marisha was a frequent babysitter for me when I was young (I am now 73). Our families spent many Shabbat dinners, holidays and weekends together. Marisha was always a lively, very kind, and friendly person, more like an aunt to me than simply a friend. My wife, Sheri, enjoyed her company at some of the Holocaust Community Services programs that Marisha attended. We shared special occasions thru the years even after my parents had passed away.
We will miss her.

Clara was my father’s treasured companion for more than twenty years. She became a beloved part of our family. We enjoyed traveling together for many years. Clara was so very special. We loved her dearly and we’ll miss her very much. May her memory be a comfort and a blessing and may she rest in peace.
