Dear Millner Family:
It is with great sadness and shame, that I did not see that Gordon had passed away in July, while I was away for several weeks. I did not hear of his passing until a mutual friend asked me if I knew that Gord had passed, just a few days ago. I have since been summoning up my courage to contact you at this late date. Gordon and I started out as adversaries, while I was serving in the State’s Attorney’s Office and he was in private practice. We had some real “debates” about the value of property, and neither ever thought the other had it right. Probably neither of us did. Once I went into private practice, we became close friends, but continued our debates on various subjects, typically during lunches at the Marshall Field’s cafeteria. Your husband, father and friend was always at the top of his game as a lawyer, and he led the way on many controversial property tax issues. We did keep in touch for many years, in fact, around 35, and I will truly miss my most cantankerous friend.
Highest Regards and Deepest Sympathy,
Don Rubin
