Martin Bentley Friend

Martin Bentley Friend, January 19, 1928 – April 27, 2021. With great sadness, the family of Martin Friend mourns his passing, just four months after his having lost the love of his life, Ellen, to whom he was married for 69 years. “Marty” was a graduate of DePaul Law School, a Navy veteran, and a respected attorney who seemed to know everyone in Chicago. A social animal with an incredibly wide circle of friends, he was beloved for his boundless enthusiasm, gregarious manner, generosity, unflagging sense of humor, and lifelong allegiance to the Chicago Cubs. He was the devoted husband of Ellen Jane Simons Friend; loving father of David Friend (Nancy Paulsen), Richard Friend (Derrick Pooyouma) and the late Janet (Steve) Berman; dear grandfather of Sam, Eliot, Jake and the late Molly; cherished brother of the late Muriel Silverman (the late I. Irving Silverman and the late Harold Kartun); and favorite uncle, in-law, friend, mentor, social companion and Brookdale neighbor of countless others.
