Knew Ellis starting in law school and we remained friends ever since. He was proud of his family and enjoyed his law career. Many funny stories and great memories.

This space to too small to extol the many virtues of Ellis. We bonded as college fraternity brothers and continued as law school classmates & colleagues at the Attorney General.
We shared a passion for comedy and our conversations were always peppered with laughter. Our practice was to only address each other as Marx Bros characters, always trying to sell each other a “Breeders’ Guide.” One of our favorite pastimes was leaving bizarre names for our office receptionists and then watching them try to translate the messages. Ellis was impeccably honest, trustworthy and, like his father, extremely generous. He sent me valuable client referrals and more importantly introduced me to friends who became my friends. Ellis will be sorely missed but I will always have our fond memories as my companion. Esther and I extend our deepest condolences to Becky and Rachel. Marc Pullman

Dearest Becky and Rachel, Ellis was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. God bless him and your beautiful family. You all fought the fight with grace and dignity and he felt that love and commitment.

To Becky and Rachel, our sadness and loss with the passing of Ellie are difficult to express in a few words, here goes; Shelley and I grew up with the entire Sostrin family in Lincolnwood. Ellis was one of my real and trusted friends throughout our lives, even when we were out of communication and far away. He named me “Paul E Bird” and always called me that. Our sports ventures together centered around golf, hockey, and baseball to name a few. His legal career is attested to by those who knew and trusted him. I knew him like a true brother and my grief expressing this is real. Love to you both, Ellis will always be with you and with me as an example of what a truly good human being can BE.

We remember Ellie starting long ago, ever since our college days at the University of Illinois in Champaign, he and Miles were ZBT fraternity brothers, Rho Chapter, Class of ’70-50. We even remember his blue corvette back then. Miles also recalls that Zoology 101 course and its test they both had to study for and then take. Since then, we have kept up over the years, remembering how delighted he was to see daughter, Rachel, called to the Bimah for her Bat Mitzvah. And still in later years Miles playing golf with him on the course near his Arizona home. Both being in the same profession, him with his expertise in worker’s comp/PI and Miles in health care law and policy, they would exchange inquiries of one another from time to time.
But as well as Ellie was known and so highly esteemed in his legal specialties, he was equally well thought of by all that knew and came into contact with him in his personal life (wasn’t he a candy-maker too?). But regardless, his loss at such a young age (we should talk, since we are the same age) is, indeed, quite sad and, well, was a shock when we were told. May his legacy be carried forth with Becky, Rachel and his lineage. RIP our dear Ellie. May your memories be a blessing.

Lots of laughter, lots of restaurant talk, lots of hours comparing the best fried chicken in Arizona. Most of all, what a good friend he was to all! He will be missed but never forgotten! All my love to Rachel and family.

I lost one of my dearest friends. My deepest condolences to Becky and his family.
I will never forget our Desert Highlands golf outings, dinners, and catch up phone calls. When I had some serious life issues it was Ellis who came to my rescue with advice and calming help.
I will always have him in my heart.

Becky, I met you once with Ellie in my Chicago Apparel Mary. Ellie was my best friend in elementary school years. We bowled together, played on the same Little League team and won a tennis tournament together. I knew his parents very well and Shirley and Nate were good friends with my parents as well. His passing hit home for me as he was the only (early) friend I know of who passed away. Ellie was a good friend and obviously very intelligent. My fond thoughts of Ellie and my sympathies as well go out to you.
Sincerely,
Rick Osney

Dear Rachel
I am deeply sorry on hearing of the passing of your Dad. I judge people by their word, and I knew that whatever Ellis told me, his word was gold. That is how I judge attorneys. And I know how proud he was of you and your accomplishments. And I’m sure he was a great grandpa. Please give my condolences to your Mom and family. Chic Marasa

Rachel and family:
My most sincere condolences. He was a terrific man.
I met him when he literally walked into my office, sat down, put his feet up, and, then, introduced himself. I was so young and new and he was so affable and genuine, he became a mentor to me even though I was a defense counsel. I had the utmost respect for him.
He was one of a kind and will be missed.

Ellis will always be remembered as one of the sweetest, warmest and most generous people. He and Becky always impressed me as a perfect couple who were obviously very much in love all of their lives. Only Ellis would have insisted on supplying his home made and very delicious chocolate candies for my mother’s 90th birthday party of nearly 160 people. No one had a bigger heart and his enthusiasm for his
hobby was simply adorable and contagious. He was entirely special and I was lucky to know him.

I wanted to express my sincere condolences. Ellis was not only a great lawyer, he was a great person. It was a pleasure to see him and spend some time with him on each visit to the Commission. In a sense, I am glad Covid has changed the way the Commission is structured and that there is no longer a chance to just meet and talk with the other lawyers on a frequent basis – it would not be the same without Ellis. I am going to truly miss him. Please contact me if I can help in any way.

Ellis was very generous and kind. I always thought he was very funny and he pretended to laugh at my jokes! And he shared his chocolates with me.
Workers’ comp has lost a great attorney, truly one of a kind.
