Edith M. Adlam

Edith Adlam “Ee”, 104, December 28, 2021. Holocaust survivor, linguist, bank officer; beloved sister of the late Rose (the late Al) Abrams; dear aunt of Marianne (Leon) Shure, Rhonda (Alan) Bogenschutz and the late Max Abrams,; great-aunt of Mark (Karen) Shure, Elissa (Jeremy) Gong, Jeffrey M. Shure and Eric (Joanne) Bogenschutz; great-great aunt of Alex and Nathan Gong and Susan and Micah Shure. Born in Russia but raised in Poland, Edith survived the Nazi occupation of France and saved the life of her younger sister, Rose. Her parents, Max and Mania Margolis, perished in the Majdanek concentration camp in Poland. Edith was a world traveler and a ferocious news junkie. She was a second mother, an inspiration, and a guiding light to her family. She supported many charitable organizations, including Na’amat, and was a founder of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie. Edith and Rose always felt the Museum was built in memory of their own parents. The family would like to thank Edith’s loving caregivers, Delia Macaraeg, and Angie Ventilescu, for the wonderful care they provided.
