I remember Howard routinely with a “how’re you doing”, his greeting to Wheeling faculty and staffers alike. He always brought a smile and warmth of spirit, may he Rest In Peace

Howard was a true mensch. He was not in my department at NLU, but he welcomed me when I came to NLU and generously spent time explaining special education rules and what my students needed to learn. He knew so much and was a teacher to his very soul. May his memory be as a blessing.

Howard was a wonderful man, family member and colleague. He was a wealth of information and always so supportive. He had such an impact upon me and helped so many people be the best they could be as Special Educators. Howard’s memory is a blessing to all that knew him. He made a difference in lives.

Howard was the best colleague and chair of special education ever! I will miss him tremendously. He was so passionate about special education and about our teacher candidates. He worked tirelessly to ensure that all our students were doing well in their classes and field placements. Howard continued to stay in touch with me even after he retired and was so kind to me when my mom passed away from cancer last year. My heartfelt prayers go out to Lynn and the rest of the family.

Howard was a great mentor to me when I came to NLU in 2002 and he always had sage advice for me as I became chair of the Diversity in Learning and Teaching Department. His contributions, which were far reaching, to NLU, specifically our department, and so many students will never be forgotten. Thank you Howard Falk for all you did and for your many years of service. May you Rest In Peace.

Dr. Falk was my instructor at National-Louis in 2001 for my degree in school administration. I was lucky enough to have him for classes again, in 2010, while earning an endorsement to be a director of special education. I see someone already referenced “the bottom line” (Howard’s favorite phrase). Dr. Falk also loved to reference and show the Brown v Board of Education black and white film. He was the greatest professor and taught me how to be prepared for the “real world” situations in the school setting. We kept in touch over the years and he so kindly reached out to me just before the pandemic to see if I needed any help mentoring staff in my district. Howard is one of the professors that made such an impact that you’ll never forget him. RIP Howard. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

When I heard this news I was immediately saddened because not only did I lose an incredible mentor but a friend. Howard was always available for talking things through and providing guidance. I was his student in 2003 however we remained in communication up until his passing. I am deeply saddened by this loss. He was truly a remarkable character who would always say… The Bottom Line.. whenever he would start to share his opinion or state the law or regulation. I am forever indebted to his profound mentorship. He will be greatly missed.

I’m so sad to learn of Howard’s passing. During my marriage to Ken he spoke often of his cousins very lovingly. For myself, I’m grateful to Howard for his council of my son Josh. Howard convinced Josh to pursue his Doctorate & helped him navigate through the process. My deepest condolences to Lynn & all the family. Most sincerely, Ileen Falk

Howard will be sorely missed. While he was my professor in 1991, he remained a friend and mentor. He was always there to “bounce things off of” and give advice. I am saddened over his passing
