Obituary

Sheppard L. Eisenberg, 97, devoted and loving husband of Clara, nee Zwick, for 74 wonderful years; loving father of Eddy (Lisa), Judith, and the late Mark Eisenberg; cherished grandpa of Jaclyn (Steve) Robbins, Jennifer Eisenberg (Logan Stillwell) and Emily Eisenberg (David Biban); adored great grandpa of George and Oliver Robbins and River Stillwell; devoted son of the late Florence and Ben; dear brother of Bailee (the late Kenneth) Mendelson, the late Melvin and the late Charlene Blumenthal; treasured uncle, cousin and friend of many. Sheppard was an extremely proud American and served honorably during WWII in the U.S. Army. My memory of Shep Eisenberg came to me through his wife Claire many years after the fact. My father George Friedman was a holocaust survivor of a work camp in Hungary and then was hidden in Budapest by Christian friends who saved his life. He rarely talked about those times, but I learned from Claire, long after they had moved away, that when we first became neighbors in our Wilmette cul de sac, my father would take long walks with Shep. During these walks, he would talk about unspeakable things that happened to him and his family during the war. I will be forever grateful to Shep for being someone that my father trusted enough to confide in and share those painful memories with. Shep was a kind, empathic man.
