Obituary
Al spent almost his entire life in the Chicago area. At Roosevelt High School, he made life-long friends as part of the Rockets Athletic Club. After seeing his father’s tough life as a produce purveyor, he aspired to be a professional and attended Roosevelt University to become a CPA. Starting as a junior accountant and progressing to tax partner, he worked at the same accounting firm for over 50 years. For the last seven years of his career, he thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of a larger firm with fabulous colleagues at Warady and Davis. As a trusted tax partner, Al developed wonderful, long-term relationships with his clients and colleagues. He had an uncanny ability to connect with clients of all political and diverse beliefs and persuasions- accepting people for who they were – even after being raised in a very traditional home. Al completed over sixty tax seasons and retired at age 82 with his clients begging him to continue!
Al loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, and playing (mostly winning at) blackjack in Las Vegas. He excitedly watched his favorite Chicago sports teams with friends and family. But his greatest thrill as a long-time Cubby fan was to experience the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Not only was he a sports fan, but for many years also an avid tennis player who fervently displayed his competitive nature. His love of tennis inspired his grandsons to become top-notch tennis players, too.
Al leaves a legacy of love, wisdom, humor and great fortitude. His family will miss him, but they know that he was welcomed by his beloved wife Anita, best friend Teddy, and many wonderful family members on the other side.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Jewish United Fund at www.juf.org. Funeral services for Alvin will be private. However, for virtual Shiva information and to leave condolences, please visit www.shalommemorial.org or call (847) 255-3520.

Fifi,Jerry,Ronnie,Leila and Family.
There are no words I can offer that will ease your pain other than, “ I am sorry.” Please accept my thoughts and prayers for my friend of almost 40 years.
The Hodesh Family met the Siegel Family in The Sunshine State.
The Sun was shining on our meeting and our friendship flourished.
What followed were many trips to Florida, visits in Chicago, many tennis games, swimming in the ocean, sunning on the beach, black jack in LV, I could go on with many paragraphs.
But the most important remembrance was sharing life cycle events. Being together during good times and bad. Being there for laughs and tears. But most important to be there for sharing and support.
Alvin will miss you as we miss Anita. Thank you both for being our friend’s and having fate bring us together.
May Alvin’s memory be for a blessing.
Shalom,
Ricki, Stuart and the entire Hodesh Family
