Obituary

Beatrice Weiskopf, 75, nee Salzberg, on July 29. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Fred Weiskopf for 52 wonderful years; loving mother of Andrew (Bess) Weiskopf; cherished Grandma of Michael and Zachary; devoted daughter of the late Regina and Fred Salzberg and daughter-in-law of Celia and the late Saul Weiskopf; sister of Gloria (Michael) Froman and the late Irvin (Harriet) Salzberg; sister-in-law of Marion (David) Gladstein; aunt to Rebecca (Brian) Freiman, Aron Salzberg, Stephanie (Curt) Gladstein, Scott (Hope) Gladstein, and the late Elissa Froman; dear friend of Robyn Bauer and many others. Bea was born in Bad Gastein, Austria in 1946. Her parents were Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Chicago in 1949. She met her future husband, Fred, while in college and shared a life that was a true partnership, working together in various small businesses over the years. Bea turned her passion for antiques into a profession, pursuing a second career as an antiques appraiser. Family was central to Bea’s life; she loved hosting holiday meals for the entire family and treasured spending time with her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center (www.ilholocaustmuseum.org) or the National Council of Jewish Women (www.ncjw.org). Andy and family,
Jim joins me in expressing our sadness of your Mother’s passing. It was because of her, that I became an Appraiser. She told me to become one while we were standing in line and waiting for an estate sale to open up. (This was at 4:30 in the morning!) And so I did! That was back in 2003. Our working relationship turned into a friendship with Fred and Jim joining us for dinners at Wildfire. I will miss our conversations about the business but most of all her friendship. Rest in peace dear Bea.

Andy – I am very sorry about the loss of your mother and your father. As you may know, my wife Ellen came to the US about the same time as your dad and spent many years with Fred and your grandparents. Sol and Celia, while growing up in Chicago. My wife attended your father’s Bar Mitzvah. We often visited with your parents while you were a child, and remember how you did not like to sleep in your bed as a young toddler. I fondly remember my days playing softball with your father as part of the Gage Cleaners team in Skokie. I also love the story your dad told about having your older son in a car in a parking lot, and getting in trouble for moving the vehicle out of the sun without putting a seat belt on your son. Your parents were wonderful people and they will be greatly missed.
