I found out today, through Dr Garvey, that Dr. Meltzer passed away. .
I was his patient from 1983 until his retirement; I never found another Dr. like him, so caring. What a wonderful human being he was !!!
He will be forever remembered.

Dr. Meltzer was my doctor from 1984 until he retired. He always greeted me with a smile and made me feel at ease with kindness and humor. I will always remember our little chats in his office after my exam was finished. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. He was definitely one of the best not only in his profession but as a human being. He will be fondly remembered.

I just found out that Dr. Meltzer passed away. He was not only an excellent doctor, he was a wonderful human being. I had my two children with him and shared more than a few problems with him concerning my health issues. I had my last appointment with him before I left for Houston. He told me he was retiring shortly. I felt it closed a Chicago chapter for me. I’ll always remember him with great respect and fondness.

I had a tough pregnancy and went into labor in a preclampsia condition. I had been on bed rest for several weeks and labor was difficult. I was worried during labor and anxious for my baby’s well being. Dr. Meltzer walked into the delivery room and after examining me, he proceeded to sit on the edge of the bed and began to have a little snack. Immediately, I felt myself begin to relax, (as much as one can do during labor), thinking…if Dr. Meltzer is relaxed enough to eat a snack, then he’s not worried. So stop worrying! He delivered both my babies and always thought to ask about them whenever I saw him for appointments or outside in the community. I also had the pleasure of being the First grade teacher of 2 of his grandchildren and Mimi actually came into the classroom as the story chair guest for her boys. I am sad to think of this world not having Dr. Meltzer in it. He made a difference as a person, friend, and doctor with his gentle and kind ways. RIP. Gone…but not forgotten.

I truly adored this man!! We had a special bond. My husband Howard and I even share the same anniversary as Dr. Meltzer and beloved wife Mimi (a blessed memory). His sense of humor, sincere kindness and empathy made him an extra special doctor and human being. He once told me that he said a prayer for every child, no matter their race or religion, because “every child deserves a good start in life” 🙂 He delivered both of my children, who are sheer perfection… my son (who just turned 30 yesterday) who was born with an almost taught natural knot in his umbilical cord and my daughter (who turns 27 this week) who was born a preemie at 27 weeks and weighing just two pounds. My gratitude for skill, love and care can never be fully expressed. May he be reunited with Mimi and Rest In Peace. You will always be loved and missed, but never forgotten, Dr. Meltzer!! xoxo

I knew Dr. Meltzer my entire adult life. I first met him as a student nurse at Michael Reese Hospital. He delivered both of my children. We would also share medical stories when we would see each other. Later in life we shared our grief when our spouses passed away.
I will miss him.

Dr. Meltzer became my gynecologist while I was still in high school. I believe that I had his very last appointment on his very last day about seven years ago. He was my doctor for 50 years and I have the fondest memories of him. He will be missed.
