Obituary

Our beloved Ina Yvonne Feldman passed away on August 7, 2022, at the age of 85, with her family by her side. Ina was born on November 27, 1936 to Meyer (Mike) and Jeanette Scheckman in Chicago, Illinois. In her youth, she was an avid equestrian, a joy that was fostered at Mac-Do Lodge, her home away from home every summer at Lake Delavan, Wisconsin. The bond “Izzie” shared with her Mac-Do sisters lasted a lifetime, and became an integral part of who she was throughout the rest of her life. In January 1954, Izzie graduated from Senn High School, where she developed her love of theater; performing with “The Players” in a variety of productions. Ina then attended the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois, studying speech pathology. Leaving U of I in her junior year, Ina transferred to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, graduating in 1958. In 1959, Ina married Dr. Edgar A. Feldman, and became an Army wife. As Ed served his residency in Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and Fort Carson, Colorado, Ina cared for their four (4) children, Bob, Steve, Sue, and Laura. In 1969, the family returned to the Chicago area, planting roots in Schaumburg. Ina was an amazing mother, staying home with the kids; serving as Cub Scouts Den Mother, and usually as classroom parent. Ina’s home became the place where all the kids felt welcomed, reveling in the not so organized chaos, as the house was often filled with the offensive line of the Saxons football team, or with girls having sleepovers and playing board games on the living room floor. As the children grew up, Ina returned to work serving as a Speech Pathologist with the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (“NSSEO”) for many years, patiently working with children in the foster care system. Ina’s Jewish roots were very important to her. She became a Bat Mitzvah at the age of 53, and enjoyed singing in the choir at Temple Chai, in Long Grove, Illinois. Ina was an extremely talented miniaturist, winning awards throughout the region for her creations that depicted whimsical moments of life in a variety of settings and historical contexts. Through miniatures, she developed close friendships with others who shared her passion. As her children grew up, and she became a grandmother, she spent much of her time traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. Always the biggest cheerleader, Gramma was the first one to attend violin and dance recitals, tennis matches, plays and CD release parties. In 2015, Ina relocated to Carmel, Indiana to live near her daughter. There, she further developed her artistic passion, taking classes in watercolor painting, and became famous for her creative and original Halloween costumes. Ina brought her love of Mah Jongg to her new community and organized a weekly game. Ina will be remembered for her sense of humor, her big heart, and the warmth with which she accepted everyone. Ina is survived by her children Robert (Dawn) Feldman, Steven (Krista) Feldman, Susan Feldman, Laura (Mike) Iosue, and her former son-in-law Pius Weibel. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jessica (Marques) Martin, Dan (Kelly Bushnell) Feldman, Rachel Feldman, Alleya Weibel, Imani Weibel, Jonathan Iosue, and great grandchildren, Ezekiel and Rylee Martin.
