Obituary
Neil grew up in Brooklyn amongst two sprawling families whose grandparents lived on the same block. During the Korean war he acted as a Corporal in the Army, then skied in Aspen for a year before accepting a job in Chicago. In 1954, in the YPL (Young People’s League) he met Leila.
He was a talented and prolific photographer. In college he formed the NYU Outdoor Club and later the Chicagoland Professional Photographers of America. His studio, founded in 1958, brought color photography to Chicago and captured thousands of family Simchas for the Jewish Chicago community and beyond. He served as President of Shaare Tikvah synagogue. He was passionate about creating (and repairing) objects with his own hands, welcoming travelers into the home, lively Shabbat dinners, Israel, history, archeology, debating with family, and enjoying the outdoors. I recall Neil for his warmth and kindness to others and his love of Judaism. I recall his annual chanting the haftorah at Yom Kippur of Jonah. The many Shabbats and events at Shul that he and Leila were so kind and and caring to my grandchildren when they were so very small and I brought them to Shabbat services in the beis midrash.
May his memory be for a blessing.
My deepest condolences to his beautiful family.

I had the great pleasure of working side by side with Neil for many years as a Videographer.
Neil and we’re often hired to shoot the same event, usually Weddings or Bar/Bat Mitzvahs over many years. Neil was a consummate gentleman, and a wonderful guy. He had a distinct, biting sense of humor when dealing with families at these events. We got on great and enjoyed each other. He was thorough professional and I was priveliged to know him.
May his memory be for a blessing.
