We are profoundly saddened by the
news of Len’s passing. For the past
year and a half, on an almost daily basis, me and my fellow police officers working a gig in Schaumburg were entertained by the endless stories of athletes Len
came into contact with over the
years and growing up in Chicago. He was like a walking history book and we loved listening to him. Len spoke of his parents with love and reverence and about their unbelievable struggles during the Holocaust. He was also very proud of his brother, the attorney. Len also loved his dog Honey and his wife in exactly that order. Always the comedian!! When we saw Len pull up in his brown SUV we knew the entertainment had arrived! The last time we saw him before his surgery Len said, like he always did when leaving, “Be Safe, I mean it!” We knew it was from the heart. Rest in peace my friend, you will be truly missed!

I had the pleasure of graduating from Mather HS’s class of 1972 with Len. He was always an original: friendly, warm and most of all, fun. In later years, we reunited at Sox games in both old Comiskey Park, at US Cellular Field and in the United Center, where he was generous enough to introduce my youngest son, Eric to his pal Kobe Bryant. Many Bulls followed Kobe’s lead and made it one of most cherished events he experienced as a child and fan. Len’s generosity made it all possible. We will miss him dearly. May his memory be for a wonderful blessing.
