Fred Alvin Blackman, 91. Beloved husband for 68 years to the late June (née Wolfson); devoted father of David (Patricia) Blackman, Karen (Robert) Kaplan, Lauren (Jeffrey) Gould, and Debra (Brian) Weinberg; treasured grandfather of Carolyn (Andy) Gasbarra, Michelle (Justin) Sandy, Mark (fiancée Chantel Martin) Blackman, Arielle (the late Shawn) Gilley, Sasha (Andreas) Papazafeiropoulos, Alec (Mary Jo) Gould, Noah Gould, Blair and Morgan Weinberg; proud great-grandfather of Grace, Erik, Penelope, Anna, and Yanni; loving brother of the late Benjamin (the late Lenore) and Irving (the late Sallie) Blackman; dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Funeral services are private but will be streamed Friday, Dec. 8 at 12:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or the Alzheimers Association, www.alz.org. Al was a lovely man. I have fond memories of him and June since we all met in 1971. Over the years, when I flew into Illinois, Lauren and I would visit her parents. I
enjoyed talking to them
about their travels. I also
loved looking at all of
their collectibles and
talking about each one.
I am really grateful I was
able to spend time with
him at Alec’s and Mary
Jo’s wedding. I was there the evening when Al
found out about his
brothers death. Yet he still took time to talk to
me and ask about my
family. He will be truly missed

David, Karen, Lauren and Debbie, my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dear father, and of your beloved mother several years ago. Our parents were such devoted friends, and a model for how to enjoy each other’s company. My dad Mel passed in 2008 and my mom Floss in June of this year. In going through her photos, I found some of our camping trip to Florida – what a great family adventure. I married Chuck, and we have a daughter Shari, 30, who married and has a son, Otto 2.5. Mitch, living in Lake Villa, married Geena and had two sons, Grif, 30 and Grant, 27, both married. Grif welcomed a son, Laurence Melvin, in July. Marty is single and in Raleigh, NC.
