If Jeff’s job meant a lot to him, then I hope he knew the feeling is mutual. He was as sharp and talented as anyone in the building. What will stick with me, though, is the positivity and brightness that he brought in with him every day. He was the first person many of us saw in the morning, and was a beam of positive energy to anyone walking in or out of our space. In all the time we spent together, I don’t think I’ve ever seen his face in any other position than thinking or smiling. Usually both.
Approaching hard, serious work with that much joy and enthusiasm isn’t an easy thing. Doing it every single day, like Jeff did, is almost impossible. But to have done all that despite everything he must have been going through shows a kind of strength that I’ll be inspired by for a long time.
We’re all better for having known him.

We have such distinct memories of Jeff–intensely playing guitar at the wedding last summer and in-depth political discussions about a wide range of topics.
It’s difficult to fathom the pain and grief that everyone whose lives he touched are experiencing now but, hopefully, over time all of the memories of good times and good deeds will overtake the pain of a life too short.

Dear Cari and Mark,
We got a glimpse of Jeff’s passion and kindness at one of our son’s Bar Mitzvah, when Jeff shared his enthusiasm for American University with our niece Tova, who then chose to attend American (and who also had a great study abroad experience during her time there). We were sorry we could not be with you in person today but we were so touched by your words and the words of Jeff’s uncle, your kids, and Jeff’s friends. With much love, Pam & Rena

From the early days of Jr.Spartans Football,Jeffrey was such a sweet & kind young man.
Our car rides to practice were enlightening. We are so deeply heartbroken at his passing. May you find strength & peace from all the beautiful memories your family has shared.
Much Love

Our daughter, Keely studied abroad, in Brussels with Jeff. We met him several times when visiting AU or post graduation in DC. , and always found him to be so warm and charming. Jeff was adored by Keely and his fellow members of their “Brussels” group. The bond of love and friendship this group possesses seems powerful and everlasting. We’re certain it was great source of strength to Jeff and a source of comfort to Jeff’s parents as he struggled with his illness. We are saddened by his loss.
We hold his friends and family in our hearts!
