Obituary
Thomas R. Weil, (Terrible Tom, the terror of Cedar Street), 91, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023 at home. He was surrounded and cared for by his loving family to the end. Tom was born in 1931 to Margaret R. and Edward S. Weil Sr. He survived his best friend and older brother, Edward S. Weil, Jr. (Dia). Tom was a loving husband to Iris Beth (I.B.), his “Honey” and the love of his life for over 40 years. He cherished his role as father to his children Cynthia Beauvais, Robert (Aviva Cahn) Weil and Daniel (Elizabeth) Weil with his first wife, Sharon (Greene) Weil Wasserman, and his step-children Leslie Fineberg and Michael Fineberg. He is also survived by seven grandchildren who he loved and adored immensely; Adler Weil, Greta Weil, Benjamin Weil, Ella Weil, Jack Fineberg, Will Fineberg and Joelle Fineberg as well as his puppy, Barkley who never left his side. He also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. The family has immense gratitude and appreciation for his wonderful caregivers Licyl Alba, JoJo Rule, Jr. and Jun Estonanto, who provided comfort and care both to him and the entire family. Tom found great joy in golf, cigars and watching sports (with a friendly wager now and then). From an early age it was clear that Tom (aka “Potsy”) possessed an unwavering love and genuine passion not only for golf, but for his beloved Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs and especially his North Carolina Tar Heels. He loved the game of golf immensely, playing at Lake Shore Country Club (club champion, 1965) while carrying a single-digit handicap for six consecutive decades. Tom steadfastly supported the Evans Scholarship Foundation and volunteered with the Chicago District Golf Association as a director. A graduate of the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill, Tom had a long career in the steel industry. He will be remembered for his charm and humor, which touched the lives of many. Interment private. A gathering to celebrate Tom’s life will be arranged at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a contribution to the Evans Scholarship Foundation at wgaesf.org or a charity of your choice.
