Obituary

Neal Alan Sacks,86, passed away June 21, 2024. Beloved husband of Barbara (nee’ Hanstein) for 47 wonderful years; loving father of Robert (the late Donna) and Lauri (Rory) Anderson; step-father to Michael (Sharlene) Walters, Lori (Andrew) Glasheen and the late Mark Walters; adored grandfather of Nikole, Jakob and Kortnee; much loved son of the late Jack and the late Joyce; caring brother of David (Barbara) Sacks; uncle to Jodi (Brad) Greenspan and Elissa (Dan) Hindin. Neal was born on June 12, 1938, in Chicago, where he lived until he retired to Mesa, Arizona 21 years ago. Neal spent his professional years in various sales positions and later became an active member of his community serving on various town and home-owner committees. His love for dogs was apparent to all who knew him. In addition to providing a loving home to six foster dogs, he helped find forever homes for many others through his volunteer efforts with the Golden Retriever of Arizona and Arizona Border Collie Rescue (AZBCR). His other passions included traveling, music, photography and setting up his house with the latest gizmos. Neal’s passing saddens us – however, we are so grateful that we had the last 20 years of friendship and the times spent enjoying each other’s company.

We remember our joyful time with our dogs, enjoying great food, and stimulating conversation. Neal and I shared a love of gadgets and technology which brought us together often since we met. He was always a favorite guest to our dogs – they always held a special place in his heart.

Our hearts go out to Barb and all of Neal’s family. We mourn his passing – but celebrate his life.

Saddened to hear of Neal’s illness and passing!
We first met Neal and Barbara at Rory and Lauri’s wedding and enjoyed visiting with both of them at rare meetings.
Our heartfelt condolences to Barbara for the loss of Neal. Also, to Rob and to Lauri (our wonderful daughter-in-law whom we love dearly) in this time of loss and transition.
To the many family members we’ve not met we extend our sympathy and condolences for your loss.
