Obituary

Phyllis Blassman, née Price, was born in Chicago in 1929 to Esther and Edward (Eli) Price. Her only brother Milton was 15 years older and was married when Phyllis was still very young. It wasn’t until they were both adults that they forged a close relationship. In the late 90’s Phyllis moved to live near her brother in Southern California where she resided until 2020 when she moved to Southern Oregon. While Phyllis’s brother Milton and sister-in-law Vivian were still alive they enjoyed theatre, music, and trips to Las Vegas together. Her nephews and their families stayed very close with Phyllis until the end of her life, and she always appreciated the gift of their continued love and connection. In Oregon Phyllis found joy in living close to her only daughter Sheryl and her husband Loren Clear, granddaughter Jen and husband Danny Bell, and great grandchildren Leila and Hendrix. Her family was very important to her and she was the happiest when spending time with them. Phyllis also had a dear and most important friend who felt like family, Nancy, and although they lived far apart Nancy always visited and called frequently, and they remained close until the very end. Phyllis had a deep sadness over the very early loss of her late husband Burton, and beloved son Howard. That profound loss was never far from the surface for the rest of her life. She was fiercely independent and never remarried, choosing instead to live how she wanted and do as she pleased. The last few years of her life were spent in a care facility in Medford Oregon. At the Bartlett house she found community with the wonderful caregivers and referred to them as friends. She seemed to forge a close connection with many of the people there, as she did with the wonderful Hospice volunteers who spent time with her during her last months. To all of them her family is grateful for their love, care, and respect. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
