Minnie Goldsmith

Minnie was a dear and cherished friend whom I knew through teaching at JDBY. In addition, I cherish all she did to help my daughters thrive and grow. She loved her students as if they were her own with unconditional love. Minnie, i will miss you dearly.

A lovely, lively woman whom I met through an employment relationship. Ron and I worked together for many, many years. Through the years, heard of their family’s growth and additions. May she be at peace. May her family find peace in the memories they share of happy times spent together.

Mrs. Goldsmith was my teacher in 7th Grade. I always looked up to her as someone educated, classy and sophisticated. Besides for the knowledge I gained from her, we used to talk about other things (like perfume!) and topics that interested a curious 7th grader. When I moved back to Chicago after marriage and taught 7th Grade in the morning, how exciting it was for me to be working alongside my own beloved Mrs. Goldsmith!! One of my favorite memories is the year I went to Springfield as a chaperone and I got to sit and talk to Mrs. Goldsmith for the hours long ride. She was a woman with strong morals and values, she adored her family and friends, and she had a youth and vitality that made her ageless. I will miss her very much. Tehei zichra baruch.

Mrs. Goldsmith was my social studies and language arts teacher in 7th grade in JDBY. I always loved her and I remember her class well. She actually always taught our class about personal hygiene in such a respectful way. She never looked at anyone specific and just gave us pointers. Until today, when I shower, I make sure to rub my hair between my fingers after shampooing until I hear it squeak. She used to tell us that is where the phrase “squeaky clean” came from. I came back to work in the school after high school and she always remembered who I was and she was happy to see me. I will definitely miss her and the whole JDBY will as well. She was legendary.

Minnie was extraordinary. As a lifelong friend of Rachel and Albert Serour, Minnie and Ron have always been, as I married into the family, extended family. From the very first time I met her/them, I have been so warmly welcomed and loved. The universe has lost a bright, enduring light. May her memory always be for a blessing.
