Obituary
Whether through traditional dog rescue, where she found homes for so many, or by offering their humans help and advice, ensuring they had the best available food, toys, and medicine, or most recently, by working to preserve the breed standards of her beloved poodles, Karen’s work on behalf of dogs never stopped. Whatever she was doing, Karen worked tirelessly at it and her only concern in every situation was “what’s best for the dog”.
While the suddenness of her passing has left Karen’s loved ones struggling to process their grief, they find peace with the knowledge that she met Jack Doodle at the Rainbow Bridge, and they are now together again and for eternity.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Morris Animal Foundation, www.morrisanimalfoundation.org or the local dog/breed rescue of your choice. Chapel service Thursday, January 2, 2025, 10:00 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment following at Shalom Memorial Park. Growing up we had a pool and I remember Aunt Karen would come over to enjoy with us. She was always so in shape and I used to ask her for tips. One thing she told me that has stuck with me all of these years is to never eat in your car. She said that if you are eating in your car it is likely junk and you should make time to sit down for a meal. Those that know me know that I have a horrible memory but for some reason this stuck with me and I think of it often.; while eating in my car 🙂
I also had a rescue dog and love dogs almost as much as she did. I admire all of her work with rescue dogs and know what she did meant so much to so many people!
She will continue to inspire people to do the work that she loved!
Sending all my love to Katie and Jacob!

Karen and I were only 17 months apart in age, but as opposite as two people could be. I will never forget all of our childhood memories,. Even though we haven’t spoken in quite awhile , you are always in my heart, always my big sister
I love you

My earliest memories of Karen – We were 11 years apart in age, me being the eldest. I used to ride my bike over to their house to see/play with “the baby”…..

I went to grammar school and high school with Karen, She sat across from me in homeroom. I am shocked to learn of her untimely passing. May her memory be for a blessing, as the jewel we knew as Karen Sholder has been recalled by Hashem. My condolences to her family; may they have the strength to overcome this loss.

Aunt Karen and I shared a special bond that began in my childhood. She introduced me to musicals, and we had special dates where she would share a new one with me. She was the first person I would go to with questions about our family history, and I loved hearing her stories. In recent years, she became a beloved presence in my life with my sons, Spencer and Tyler. Her incredible intelligence shone brightly, and I already see glimpses of that brilliance in Spencer. She made a point to never leave without telling me she loved me and was proud of me. I loved her dearly and will miss her more than words can express. May your memory be a blessing, Aunt Karen. I love you.
