Obituary

Bruce Harvey Perkers was born February 11, 1938, to parents Rueben and Minnie Perkers. He passed suddenly on March 20, 2025.

He grew up in Detroit, MI where his father owned a gas station. As a teenager he attended Mumford High School. Later, he attended Wayne State University and became an accountant. He briefly served in the National Guard where he worked as a cook. In his mid-twenties, Bruce moved to the Chicago area where he spent the rest of his life.

In 1965, Bruce married his first wife, Hedy. They had two children, Kelly and Cory. After briefly living in Chicago, the family moved to Northbrook. In 1994, he married his second wife Kathy, and they lived in the Chicago suburbs with Kathy’s daughter Karen and an assortment of animals. When Kathy passed, Bruce moved to a retirement community. He won many residents over with his smile and more importantly, brownies.

Bruce was an avid sports fan. He loved to watch all sports and was very loyal to his Detroit teams. Whether they were winning championships or making him shake his head in disgust, he always said they were his teams. Bruce also liked to play sports. He played a lot of baseball growing up and also enjoyed golf and bowling.

Bruce also enjoyed playing cards. When he was in high school, one of his friends taught him the game of bridge and it turned into a passionate hobby for him. He became an excellent player. Over the years, he had many partners/teammates that included his friends, his mother’s friends, and a few top players. But the partners he enjoyed playing with the most were his mother and two children.

Bruce is survived by his daughter, Kelly Nichols-Voss, his son, Cory Perkers, stepdaughter Karen Rose and his granddaughter, Sarah Voss. His smile and positive attitude will be greatly missed.
