Obituary

Fred Calvin Fingerhut, 76, passed away March 12, 2025. He was the loving son of the late Manuel and Paula Fingerhut; beloved husband and best friend of the late Robin (née Kosovksi) for 51 wonderful years; devoted father of Mark (Kristie) Fingerhut; proud grandpa of Arlo, Madelyn, and Jordan; cherished brother of Anita (David) Dordek; dear brother-in-law of Sheryl Kosovski and the late Maura (the late Ronald) Shaffer; caring uncle of Asher Dordek, Lena (Gabriel) Prero, Samuel (Tara) Dordek, and David (Emily) Shaffer; fond great-uncle of Sophiya, Menucha, Ezra, Yeshayahu, Leora, Yisroel, Manny, Hadassah, Jack, Charlie, Theodore, Delia, and Bennett. Family was incredibly important to Fred and he grew up attending “cousins club” picnics, enjoying holidays with the extended family. Fred had a sharp mind, especially his memory, with an uncanny ability to remember names, dates, and numbers. You could always be sure to get a “Happy Birthday” email from him at exactly midnight on your birthday. He worked for over 30 years at Equitable Life Insurance Company, doing what he loved: helping people. He was the “IT Guy” before that was even a thing – using his intellect to assist anyone and everyone. Fred grew up attending synagogue and Hebrew School at Congregation K.I.N.S. of West Rogers Park. Afterwards, he was a long-standing congregant of Congregation Ezras Israel, and eventually he and Robin joined Congregation Beth Judea when they moved to Buffalo Grove. Fred was a Boy Scout as a kid, but he could also be a bit of a troublemaker when the fancy struck him. As much as Fred was a family man, he also maintained close relationships with friends for decades. He and Robin were members of the JCC Footlighters theater group as teenagers – he was still close with several of them and their families all these years later, and he always looked forward to their annual New Year’s Day brunch together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Judea, www.bethjudea.org, or the Jewish United Fund, www.juf.org/donate. Chapel service Monday, March 17, 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Rd, Arlington Heights. Interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park.
