Obituary
Howard graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia, MN, Virginia Junior College and the University of Minnesota, from which he also earned a Master of Arts degree. After teaching history and political science at the Lab School at the University of Chicago for 5 years, Howard became a dedicated Professor of Political Science at Olive-Harvey College, City Colleges of Chicago, from 1961 to 1996. He served as the Dean of Arts and Letters for many years. Howard was a proud member of the Cook County College Teachers Union, Local 1600 of the American Federation of Teachers.
He was an exercise enthusiast, loved travel, pets, yard work, a good cigar and video poker at almost any casino, but his greatest joy in life was his family. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Blind Democratic Jewish Veteran Native American Police Animal Shelter of your choice, or to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. I have such wonderful memories of Howard and Barbara on vacation in Aruba. We (Jim-deceased) spent many hours by the pool enjoying nature and just sharing. The evenings were spent exploring anywhere from a pizza place to fine dining. Oh what memories I have. My heart is very sad.

Howard took up the dulcimer easily, becoming an expert in a short time. (Unlike myself, who never was proficient at it!) He was such a kind, happy person that it was a pleasure to have him participate in the group.
I will always feel blessed for having known him. Now he’s out there somewhere, sharing his talents with those who have gone before. God. Bless. Rest in peace.
