Obituary

Dolores Kessler, nee Finkel, 96. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Earle; doting daughter of the late Isadore and Sylvia Finkel; devoted mother of Michele (Joe) Erwin-Negron, Linda (Charles) Dawe, Richard (Wendy) Kessler, Elliot Weiss (Frances Gilman), Karen Weiss-Slutsky, and Ira Kessler; cherished grandmother of David (Tina Jiwatram-Negron) Negron, Eric (Katherine) Negron, Jared Negron (Sean Hoagland), Natalie Dawe (Daniel Fleeter), Hannah Dawe, Matthew Kessler, Kevin (Jennifer) Weiss, Randi (Joshua) Weiss Harris, Sarah (Ryan) Tooley, and Andrew Slutsky; proud great-grandmother of nine; loving sister of the late Evelyn (the late William) Liberson; caring mother-in-law of Mark Slutsky and Rita Weiss; dear cousin, aunt, and great-aunt. Dolores’ gifts included common sense, grit, humor, and insight. She was thirsty to learn and was tickled by her ability to think logically. Naturally likeable, she was universally beloved. When others gave up, Dolores would carry on, practically and without airs. She knew when to be blunt and when to sympathize. Most of all, Dolores modeled character, and last week she told her kids, “Always take care of each other.” In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be welcome to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org, and Breakthrough T1D, www.breakthrought1d.org. Funeral service Tuesday, March 25, 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Rd, Arlington Heights. Interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park.
